Project Management, Not AI Writing

Asana is primarily a project/work management platform. AI features (AI Studio, AI Teammates) automate workflows and summarize tasks, but do not write content like Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini.

AI Studio: No-Code Workflow Automation

Describe what you want in natural language, AI Studio builds the workflow. January 2026 added 'words to workflow' chat for even easier automation building. Automate task routing, intake triage, summarization. Available on Starter (basic), Advanced (full), Enterprise (highest). Additional AI credits available for purchase.

AI Teammates: Available as Add-On to All Paid Plans (March 2026)

As of March 17, 2026, AI Teammates are an add-on to Starter, Advanced, Enterprise, and Enterprise+ plans (not Enterprise-only). 21 specialized AI agents available including Campaign Brief Writer, Launch Planner, Compliance Specialist, and more. Contact sales to enable; self-service coming soon.

Admin-Controlled Opt-Out

Individual users cannot disable AI features. Admins and super admins must enable/disable via Admin Console. The December 2025 Privacy Statement update confirms Asana uses domain metadata to train its own AI models when AI features are enabled — admins can disable this via Admin Console.

No Third-Party AI Training on Your Data

Third-party LLM providers (AI Partners) are contractually prohibited from training on customer data. Data is deleted after each AI interaction. However, Asana's own AI uses domain-level metadata (not user-generated content) for model training when Asana AI features are enabled.

Personal Plan Now Limited to 2 Users

WARNING: Free Personal plan is now limited to 2 users for accounts created after November 12, 2025. Legacy Personal accounts created before that date retain up to 10 users. Organizations with more than 2 staff must upgrade to Starter. Paid plans also require minimum 2 seats.

FedRAMP In Process (Moderate) — Not Yet Authorized

Asana achieved FedRAMP 'In Process' designation at Moderate level in July 2025 and is listed on the FedRAMP Marketplace. A separate Asana Gov product exists for public sector use. Full authorization has not yet been granted as of March 2026.

Common Sense Media Warning Rating

Common Sense Media gives Asana a 'Warning' rating due to third-party marketing data sharing, personalized advertising, and cross-site ad tracking. This applies to Asana's general web/marketing practices and may not affect enterprise customer data under a Customer Agreement.

Enterprise or Enterprise+ required for HIPAA compliance with BAA. Enterprise+ adds data residency and Enterprise Key Management for maximum compliance. Contact Asana for nonprofit pricing on Enterprise tiers.
