Access via techsoup.org/grammarly. Confirmed still active as of July 2026. Limited to new subscribers or those currently on the Free plan; existing paid subscribers are not eligible. Not available on Goodstack.

Training ON by Default

Unlike some competitors, Grammarly's training setting is ON by default for individual users. You must manually opt out in account settings. Enterprise admins can opt out for entire org. Third-party AI providers are contractually prohibited from training on user content regardless of setting.

Corporate Rebrand: Grammarly → Superhuman

Grammarly, Inc. rebranded its company name to Superhuman Platform Inc. on October 29, 2025. The Grammarly product name is unchanged. Superhuman suite now includes Grammarly, Coda, Superhuman Mail, and Superhuman Go (AI assistant). Privacy policy and terms now reference Superhuman Platform Inc.

'Expert Review' Controversy and Class-Action Lawsuit (2026)

In August 2025, Grammarly launched 'Expert Review,' an AI feature (part of the Pro tier) that generated writing feedback attributed to real, named journalists, authors, and scholars — including Stephen King, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Julia Angwin, Kashmir Hill, and the late Carl Sagan — without obtaining their consent. Following public backlash reported by Wired and The Verge, Superhuman disabled the feature on March 11, 2026, the same day journalist Julia Angwin filed a class-action lawsuit (Angwin v. Superhuman Platform, Inc., No. 1:26-cv-02005, S.D.N.Y.) alleging violations of New York and California right-of-publicity laws and seeking damages exceeding $5 million. CEO Shishir Mehrotra publicly apologized but the company is contesting the legal claims. The lawsuit only covers the individuals whose names were used, not general Grammarly subscribers, and does not affect core grammar/spelling features. As of July 2026, the case remains pending with no reported settlement. Nonprofits should note this as a reputational/governance signal when evaluating vendor trustworthiness, though it does not change the tool's privacy/security posture for ordinary use.

Premium Renamed to Pro

Grammarly Premium is now Grammarly Pro. Same features, same price. Pro can now include up to 149 team members, absorbing former Business plan features.

Business Plan Discontinued

The standalone Business plan no longer exists. Teams of 150+ must use Enterprise with custom pricing.

Third-Party AI Protection

While Grammarly may use your content for training (unless opted out), their third-party AI service providers are contractually prohibited from training on user content. This applies to all tiers.

Writing Assistant, Not Content Creator

Grammarly excels at editing and polishing writing. For heavy content creation, Claude or ChatGPT may be better. Grammarly's AI prompts are supplementary to its core proofreading function.

Superhuman Go: Expanding Cross-App AI Assistant

Superhuman Go is an AI assistant that works across 100+ apps, offering proactive writing help, meeting scheduling, and contextual memory. Free during early access via Grammarly for Chrome/Edge, with Mac/Windows support planned. For Business and Education users, AI training is off by default for Go. A Superhuman Agents SDK entered developer beta in 2026, enabling custom AI agents and a marketplace for third-party agents — a new feature surface nonprofit admins should monitor for data-handling implications.
